Graduation Exams Begin in Slovenia

A total of 7,251 candidates have begun taking the matura, the final secondary-school examinations in Slovenia. The first test was an essay in the Slovenian language, for which students were given 120 minutes.

This year’s topic marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Cankar, a classic of Slovenian literature. Students were required to study his novel On the Slope and a contemporary interpretation of the work.

The examination results will be announced on July 13. Last year, the average essay score was 32.31 out of a possible 50 points.
