The students of the Faculty of Medicine help with the health monitoring of homeless people

A 10 member team of students that attend the Faculty of Medicine of Pavol Jozef Šafarik University in Košice helped homeless people through a project called “Homeless not helpless” by preforming anamnesis and essential medical examination. The screening took place three times in the shelter Oaza near Košice.

We measure blood pressure and glycemia, eventually we dress wounds and superficial infections, for example, state after amputation of limbs, burns, or insect bites. Our team detects a state of teeth and analyze global health condition of every patient and according to this, we decide who needs to visit a doctor in out-patient department and who needs to be hospitalized,“said 4th-year student of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ Ester Tomajková, who is a member of Academic Senate of UPJŠ, Faculty of Medicine and the Association of Medical Students in Košice.

The homeless’s help is organized by The Club of human rights and peace of the Association of Medical Students in Košice with the Foundation DeDo and Dr.h.c. prof. MUDr. Vladimír Krčméry Dr.Sc. that lead the students and conducted rapid-testing of COVID-19 of Oáza’s clients.
