The Port of Koper to Accept Over 100,000 Cruise Tourists in 2018
The passenger terminal in Koper, the only seaport of Slovenia, is experiencing a significant inflow of ships. For the first half of 2018, the port has already registered 41 passenger ships with 46,500 passengers. By the end of the year, another 43 cruise liners carrying about 55,000 passengers are expected. For comparison, in 2017, 68 ships and 73,000 passengers were registered. This year, 30 passenger ships are expected in Piran as well.
The number of cruise ships and passengers visiting Slovenia is constantly increasing. It should be noted that in the current year, the season of visiting Slovenia with large liners has been extended. “This year, for the first time in the history, the season has been already opened in February and will continue until the end of the year,” says the representative of the Mayor’s Office of Koper, Jana Tolja.
Cruise passengers are increasingly eager to visit the city of Koper and other parts of Slovenia. In the first years of cruises, only about 40% of passengers went on an excursion to Koper, but now this figure has grown to 90%. Most of them commit sightseeing tours in coastal towns of Piran, Portorož and Koper, and many attend local attractions, such as Lipica Horse Farm, Postojna Caves, Ljubljana or Bled and Bohinj Lakes in the Alps. In addition to popular walks along the coastal Slovenian towns, tourists also have a large selection of bicycle, gastronomic and wine tours.
