The EduCTX Platform Is Awarded by the Slovenian Informatics Society
As part of the 26th DSI Conference 2019 – Slovenian Informatics Days (Portorož, 16–17 April 2019), the EduCTX digital micro-certification management platform based on the blockchain technology received the eNagrada award as the best project in computing machinery and informatics. The platform was developed on the basis of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Maribor. Within the framework of the conference, 10 projects competed.
The Slovenian Informatics Society has been presenting the eNagrada award for many years in order to promote and popularise successful information projects.
The digital platform based on blockchain technology, smart contracts, the Ethereum in IPFS consortium network, and decentralised applications was developed by theGroup, which is part of the Informatics Institute at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics, University of Maribor. The leading architect of the platform and its creator is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhamed Turkanović, a member of the Institute of Informatics.
EduCTX is a digital platform for distributing, managing, storing, sharing, and displaying digital micro-certificates based on blockchain technology, smart contracts, decentralised applications, or within a decentralised and distributed environment. Currently, three institutions of higher education serve as pilot sites for testing the platform – the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics (University of Maribor, Slovenia), the University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (Germany). The University of Zagreb is in the process of joining the team.
The platform benefits all educational institutions and organisations that organise various seminars and trainings and wish to provide participants with personalised certificates confirming their knowledge. The platform allows existing information systems to integrate and develop new innovative services based on network data.
With the award received, the Group confirmed the fact that, given proper design and development, blockchain technology can be effectively and wisely used in complex business processes.
