Slovenian Skier Ilka Štuhec Defend the Title of the World Champion in Downhill Skiing

A 28-year-old athlete from Slovenj Gradec, skier Ilka Štuhec, is a two-time world champion in downhill skiing. She has become the fifth athlete in the history of downhill skiing, who managed to defend the champion title. The competition was held in the Swedish Åre ski resort.

Ilka Štuhec was ahead of the silver medallist, the Swiss Corinne Suter by 0.23 seconds, and of the bronze medallist, the American Lindsey Vonn – by almost half a second.

Thus, Ilka Štuhec repeated the achievement of Marii Walliser – the two-time world champion in downhill skiing in 1987 and 1989. This is the seventh gold medal won by Štuhec. It is interesting to know that the Slovenian athlete used the same skis as in 2017 at the championship start in St. Moritz.
