Slovenian Judokas Become Gold and Bronze Medal Winners of the World Cup in Zagreb
Slovenian judokas Tina Trstenjak and Ana Velenšek won gold and bronze medals at the World Cup Grand Prix tournament in Zagreb.
The 2016 Olympic champion 28-year-old Tina Trstenjak (Z’dežele Sankaku club) confidently won in the weight category of up to 63 kilograms. In the final fight, she got the upper hand over the two-time Asian champion Japanese Nami Nabekura – 10:0. It should be noted that this is Tina Trstenjak’s 34th medal of the World Cup competitions and the 15th gold medal.
In the weight category of over 78 kilograms, her compatriot Ana Velenšek won the bronze medal. In the semifinals, she lost to the future winner Japanese Akira Sone – 0:10.
Due to their success, Tina Trstenjak and Ana Velenšek received valuable qualification points on the eve of the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
It should be added that another representative of Slovenia, Klara Apothekar, took 5th place in the category of up to 78 kilograms, losing in the duel for bronze to Dutchwoman Marhinde Verkerk – 0:10.
