Slovenian Book Fair on 22–27 November: Announcement

The Slovenian Book Fair will start on 22 November in Ljubljana. This is the biggest event in the world of book publishing in Slovenia.

The event is to be held in the Cankar Centre and will involve 104 publishers. About 30 foreign and 100 Slovenian authors will visit the exhibition. The organizers will hold 280 events including those in the framework of the Publishers’ Academy (Založniška akademija), the Visitors Forum (Forum za obiskovalce) and the Discussion Cafe (Debatna kavarna). Nearly 200 guests from around the world will compete in the literary debates. The Slovenian Book Fair will offer something interesting for everyone, whether this is a publisher, a writer, or an ordinary reader.

This time, Italy will be in the focus of attention. In Ljubljana, the favourite with Slovenian readers Susanna Tamaro, a writer and a journalist Paolo Rumiz and a multiple winner of literary contests Antonio Scurati will tell about their creative work. Giorgio Agamben and Franco Berardi are among the prominent Italian philosophers-guests of the Fair. Moreover, a well-known writer, publisher and director Elisabetta Sgarbi will come to Ljubljana.

Florence Hartmann, a journalist and in the recent past a representative of the Public Relations of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, is invited to the event from France. Other foreign guests include a children’s writer from Norway Maria Parr, a now living in Austria Bulgarian writer Dimitre Dinev and a young author from Bosnia and Herzegovina Marko Dejanović.

The Fair will officially open on Tuesday, when the first event is to be held in the framework of the Publishers’ Academy (Založniška akademija). On this day, Elisabetta Sgarbi together with two editors will present her publishing house and tell about the Italian book market. The guest from Italy will also be the honorary speaker at the opening ceremony of the Fair, at which the prizes and diplomas of the Alois Schwentner Fund will be awarded.

For the general public, the Slovenian Book Fair will open on 23 November at 9:00 a.m.
