Slovenia Ranks 31st in the Global Innovation Index 2019
This ranking is annually compiled by specialists from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Insead Business School. Switzerland remains the leader of the ranking, which includes 129 countries. The second and third places are occupied by Sweden and the USA. The top ten also includes the Netherlands, the UK, Finland, Denmark, Singapore, Germany, and Israel.
Slovenia ranks 31st in the ranking immediately after Italy. It is followed by Portugal and Hungary. For comparison: Austria ranks 21st in the ranking and Croatia – 44th.
The authors of the ranking highlight the development of innovation in Slovenia despite the slowdown in global economic growth. They focus on strengthening of protectionism and a slight increase in innovation investment, which is observed in the majority of economically developed countries.
