RUBIKON – Slovenian Student Competition in Presenting Decisions of the European Court of Human Rights: Apply Now
This competition contributes to better training of Slovenian lawyers, that is to better representation of plaintiffs and the state, better protection of conventional rights in the adoption and application of regulatory acts, as well as in the functioning of general courts, constitutional courts and advocates. Contestants are trained to predict the decisions of the ECHR in each specific case, in which they can participate as representatives of the plaintiff, respondent state or as drafters of legal decisions or court orders.
Students from the European Law Faculty at the New University, the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana, the Faculty of Law at the University of Maribor, the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana, and the Faculty of Management at the University of Ljubljana are invited to participate in the RUBIKON Competition. Applications for participation are accepted until 31 March 2020 at. In the case of a large number of applications, the selection stage will be held at the European Law Faculty at the New University. The date of selection stage will be announced additionally.
The final stage of the competition will be held in Ljubljana on 14 May 2020. The participants themselves will choose any ECHR case against any country signatory of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (not against Slovenia). In the finals, the participants have ten minutes to present the ECHR decision that they have chosen. Then they should answer questions from a panel of teachers, former judges of the Constitutional Court, and a rhetoric expert. Following the results of the competition, finalists will receive diplomas and book prizes, and the winner will receive the cup.
