It should be noted that tourism training in Slovenia is very popular, because this industry determines the economy of the country. There are many study programmes in local universities, wherein future specialists are oriented not only to Slovenia, but also to the neighbouring countries of Europe during their studies. The academic curriculum pays great attention to practice in Slovenian tourism companies. Practitioners who have extensive experience in the tourism industry read lectures.

A variety of study programmes for training specialists in tourism are offered by both public and private institutions of higher education in Slovenia. The key educational institutions in this sphere are the University of Maribor and the University of Primorska. The acceptance of applications for the first round of admission to the University of Maribor finishes on 20 April, at the University of Primorska — on 25 May. It is important to emphasize that the enrolment of students for the second round of admission to the University of Maribor will be available only for those students who applied until 20 April.
