{"id":13209,"date":"2026-10-22T10:36:41","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T08:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2tm.eu\/?post_type=news&#038;p=13209"},"modified":"2026-10-22T10:36:43","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T08:36:43","slug":"government-to-discuss-controversial-foreigners-act-amendments","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/2tm.eu\/en\/news\/government-to-discuss-controversial-foreigners-act-amendments\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to Discuss Controversial Foreigners Act Amendments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Slovenian government will review proposed amendments to the Foreigners Act, which have already sparked strong criticism even before reaching parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key changes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Free Slovenian language courses for foreigners will be abolished \u2014 participants will have to <strong>cover 40% of the costs themselves<\/strong>, while language proficiency requirements will become stricter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 To renew a residence permit based on family reunification, <strong>A2 proficiency will be required instead of A1<\/strong>, while permanent residence applicants will need <strong>B1 instead of A2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 The waiting period before applying for family reunification will <strong>increase from 1 year to 3 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 The minimum income requirement for obtaining a residence permit will rise from <strong>\u20ac507.43 to \u20ac710.40<\/strong> (an even higher amount of \u20ac1,014.86 was initially proposed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Trade unions and NGOs have strongly criticized the changes<\/strong>, describing them as an attempt to push workers&#8217; families out of the country and hinder the integration of foreign workers.
