Delo Newspaper: The Slovenian Language Is Taught Almost Worldwide

In February 2020, Delo Newspaper published the latest data on the study of the Slovenian language around the world. Today, this language is taught at 61 universities in 25 countries (including 19 European countries) on all continents except Australia. This year, over 2,000 students are studying the Slovenian language, of which 500 are in Serbia, where it is most popular. In 28 universities, including two in Beijing, Slovenian language is a separate study programme, while at the rest of the universities, it is a selective subject.

In 90 cities in Europe, 36 teachers teach Slovenian. Every year, 1.3 million euros are allocated only for the salaries of teachers of the Slovenian language in Europe.

In 2019, the Government Department for Work with Slovenes Living Abroad allocated 6.3 million euros to finance language courses and other events held by the diaspora representatives.
