Cuisine of Slovenia’s Regions: Cucumber Salad with Sesame Seeds and Cilantro

Cooking time – 15 minutes.


  1. 4 big cucumbers,
  2. 1 tbsp sesame oil,
  3. refined vegetable oil,
  4. rice vinegar,
  5. lime juice,
  6. ground chilli pepper,
  7. 2 tbsp fish sauce,
  8. a pinch of white sesame seeds,
  9. cilantro.


Cut the ends of the cucumbers, remove the seeds with a spoon. Cut cucumbers into thin slices without removing the peel.

Fry sesame seeds in a pan without oil until a light golden colour. Sprinkle the thinly sliced cucumbers with the fried seeds.

Add vegetable oil, rice vinegar, lime juice, ground chilli pepper, finely chopped cilantro and fish sauce, and then gently mix together. Add a little salt to taste. Those who like spicy food can add freshly chopped chilli or a little more ground chilli.
