Cuisine of Slovenia’s Regions: Češpljeva Mlečna Juha (Čvečkova Župa)—Milk Soup with Cherry Plums and Dumplings

Cherry plums cooked in milk with dumplings (unleavened dough).

  1. 20–30 peeled cherry plum fruits—”čvečki” (plums can be used instead of cherry plums),
  2. 200 mL water,
  3. 1 L milk,
  4. 100–150 g flour,
  5. 1 raw egg,
  6. salt,
  7. sugar.

Add peeled cherry plum fruits into 200 mL of boiling water. If necessary, add sugar and cook for about 3 minutes. Then add milk. When the soup boils, add dumplings (unleavened dough) while stirring. The soup should be stirred well several times. If it is too thick, add milk or water. Salt. Boil the soup for about 15 minutes stirring all the time.

Dumplings or pieces of unleavened dough: mix an egg with flour, and then divide the mixture into small pieces with fingers or a fork.
