Cuisine of Slovenia’s Regions: Beef Steaks in Spicy Sauce
Cooking time – 90 minutes.
Ingredients (for 6 portions)
- 6 big beef steaks,
- 2 medium onions,
- 1 big carrot,
- 1big parsley root,
- 1 bunch of celery,
- 1 small leek,
- salt, pepper,
- 1 tbsp mustard,
- steak seasoning mix,
- soy sauce,
- vegetable oil,
- wine, lemon juice or vinegar (any to choose, to taste).
Put the steaks on a kitchen board, cover with plastic wrap and mash them. Sprinkle each steak with a mixture of spices, salt and pepper.
In a bowl, mix vegetable oil, soy sauce, salt, pepper, a few drops of vinegar, wine or lemon juice, mustard and a mixture of seasonings for steaks. Brush steaks with sauce and let them rest for a while (you can leave them overnight).
Chop onion and other vegetables as finely as possible (you can use an electric chopper).
Heat a pan, in which steaks will be cooked (you can use a pizza baking dish). When the pan becomes hot, put the steaks on it and bake them on both sides. While the steaks are baked, pour them with the sauce, in which they were previously marinated.
If necessary, add a little broth or a little warm water, and turn the steaks several times.
When the steaks are a little baked, free up a place in the pan to put the onions, and mix them with fat so that the onions soften a little. Then add the remaining chopped vegetables, mix them and lay the steaks again in the pan. Lower the heat, cover the pan with a lid, and wait at least half an hour until the sauce is cooked. Wen stewing, stir several times and add liquid (broth or water). Season the dish with a mixture of seasonings, salt, pepper, Vegeta, as well as other spices – to taste.
