It has turned out that your current study programme does not meet your expectations, and you have realised that the professional path chosen earlier is not what you really need. Now, looking back, you complain that it would’ve been better to change the programme in the first month of your studies. For some reason, you didn’t do it right away, and now you have already completed the biggest part of the first academic year (or perhaps even of the second year!) and you lose your will along with motivation… Many students in such situations rush about in ignorance of what to do – get a job, drop out of university, or probably change the programme (but how?..) Believe us, things are not as pessimistic as they seem at first glance!

First of all, you need to decide what exactly bothers you and what, on the contrary, is to your liking. You can start by making a list of the advantages and disadvantages of your current programme. Which study subjects are suitable for you, which are not, and why? The list also makes it easier to understand whether you are guided by objective facts or follow your emotions. Then, differentiate between study and work – sometimes, when studying, it seems to us that subjects have nothing to do with real work, which we will do later.

If you have come to the assurance that the way you are going now is not suitable for you, it is necessary to consider other possibilities of study or employment. Before you make quick decisions, develop a plan of actions that will help you avoid mistakes. Find information about creative workshops, seminars, and courses. Talk with students from other study programmes, read useful articles related to this topic (for example, this one). Visit career counselling meetings or career fairs. And by all means, preserve your equal mind and assurance that you will surely find what you need and succeed in your future career!
