Teaching at Hungarian universities is conducted in Hungarian, English, German and French.
If the applicant does not have sufficient knowledge of English or German, they can freely enter the preparatory faculty of the chosen university. Preparatory faculties practice the early admission of successful and diligent students to the first year of their university. At preparatory faculties students gain knowledge of the requiremetns of the university and take courses to learn Hungarian or other foreign language to the level required for admission and study in that language.
Hungarian universities charge tuition fees, but compared to other countries in Europe they are very affordable. Depending on the university and the program, you can expect to pay around 2,500 to 3,000 euros per year; Engineering programs can be a bit more expensive at up to around 5,000 euros per year. Studying medicine or dentistry usually incurs tuition fees of around 6,000 to 8,000 euros per year.
Renting a room at a university dormitory or a shared flat costs around 100-150 euro per month.
Meanwhile, food, transport and other things, you can get by on less than 600 euros per month in Budapest (the capital), and on less than 500 euros per month in the smaller cities.
Hungary is a tourist country and Budapest is the safest capital in Europe. The attitude towards foreigners is calm and friendly, considering around 40 million foreign visitors visit the country.
Furthermore, Hungary offers an incredible student life. Students can go to cafes, eateries, and libraries during the day time. Several places in the country come to life only at night. There is a huge number of clubs, live music venues, and bars in the city that serve as centers for socializing for international students.
