Everyone who studies in Slovenia and has a student status has a right to student work. As opposed to most countries in the EU, students in Slovenia can work 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week in accordance with the Employment Relationships Act.
As a conscientious welfare state, Slovenia is actively stimulating the idea of working while studying. Not only to offer the possibility of earning some allowance, but also to become financially independent, some organizations specialize in helping students get student work as quickly and as easily as possible.
There are different possibilities for student work. A wide range of choice varies from service activities in tourism and administration to serious jobs on especially responsible positions.
Minimal hourly wage that is guaranteed is €5.40 gross/hour or €4.56 net/hour.
For professional work like translating, IT services, private hours for high school students, foreign language courses etc., an hourly wage can go over €7.
For many students this is their first experience with working in the EU.
The money they earn withis sufficient to cover all the costs of living in Slovenia during studies.
It is not rare that students who complete their studies at a faculty also sign a contract with the same employer who they worked for while. If they choose to look for a new job, however, the work they have done during their studies can be a good reference in their CV.
Come and get your first work experience in the EU – enroll at a Slovene faculty or college!
